Press Release
IQ Goes International
FOR RELEASE May, 1998
Contact: Jennifer Burnstein, IQ Program Coordinator
The first Canadian IQ Certifications were granted during the May 5 meeting of the IQ Board of Directors. During that meeting, the Board granted IQ Certification to Security Response Center and Damar Security Systems.
Both of these companies are located in Sarnia, Ontario Canada and both are owned by David Currie, a long-time member of the Canadian Alarm and Security Association (CANASA). Security Response is one of the largest contract monitoring companies in Canada and Damar is an installation and service company.
Security Response Center and Damar Security are the first companies to take advantage of the special member certification fee discount extended to CANASA members by the IQ Certification Board. Four National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) member companies, Murrey Installations in Phoenix, MD, Guardian Security Systems in Iowa City, Iowa, Security On-Line Systems in Ambler, PA and AASCO in Glen Burnie, MD were also granted IQ Certification during the call.
The new Canadian Certifications come on the heels of a visit by IQ Certification Board Chairman David Mandel to the CANASA Board of Directors meeting in Montreal, Canada in late April. At that meeting, CANASA agreed to help the IQ Certification Board internationalize the Program by reviewing the IQ Policies and Guidelines and bringing Canadian equivalents to the attention of the IQ Board.
According to Mandel, "I am very pleased that CANASA is looking so closely at IQ. The IQ Board is very open to making the program work for CANASA and the alarm industry in Canada, which it represents. We are prepared to partner with CANASA much as we have partnered with the NBFAA in the U.S. to help spread the IQ gospel of quality and false alarm reduction. I am sure that David Currie will soon be letting other dealers in Canada know of the benefits that an IQ Certified company enjoys."
On a separate topic, during the May 5 teleconference the Board also promulgated a number of suggested amendments to the IQ Program for public comment. According to the bylaws of the IQ Certification Board, proposed changes to the program must be submitted for a sixty-day public comment period prior to action by the Board. In this way, the board can have the full input of the industry if altering the program. Copies of the proposed amendments and/or a full list of IQ Certified Companies can be found on the IQ website at www.alarm.org/iq.html or by calling Jennifer Burnstein at (301) 585-1855.
