Press Release

First IQ Certifications Granted

FOR RELEASE  September, 1997

Contact: Jennifer Burnstein, IQ Program Coordinator

The Installation Quality (IQ) Certification Board announced that it has approved its first two IQ Certified companies.

On Monday, September 22, the IQ Certification Board certified Cain Security Systems, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia and TotalWatch Security Systems of Louisville, Kentucky. The certifications were granted based on the companies’ completion of the IQ Application for Certification and their adherence to the strict IQ Certification Policies and Guidelines.

To obtain an IQ Certification, an electronic security and life safety systems company must adhere to the IQ Certification Policies and Guidelines for each and every future monitored installation. The requirements of the program include company guidelines, user training guidelines, employee training guidelines, system design guidelines, equipment guidelines, installation guidelines and monitoring guidelines. Each of the policies and guidelines are specifically tailored to assure maximum quality and false alarm resistance in every new monitored system installed.

The program specifics were created by the IQ Certification Board, which consists of members from the law enforcement, fire prevention, state regulatory and insurance industries as well as alarm industry representatives.

According to Cain Security owner Ron Cain, "Cain Security’s new IQ Certification is my personal badge of honor in the fight against false alarms. It also tells my customers, my prospective customers and the law enforcement community that I am one of the good guys in the alarm industry.

Bill Cooper, owner of newly certified TotalWatch Security stated, "I am excited to be one of the first IQ Certified dealers. I’ve always been leery about new products and programs, but from the moment I heard about IQ, I knew what it could mean for my company. IQ is my marketing tool to show prospects that I’m not just claiming to be a quality dealer, I can prove it. Right now, I can go up against any company in the industry and show my proof of commitment to quality and false alarm prevention. It’s going to give me a real leg-up in closing sales. I feel like I’ve gotten in on the ground floor of a program that will be sweeping the entire industry."

According to IQ Board Chairman David Mandel, "Companies of any size are eligible for certification. That’s one of the beauties of the program. As long as your company is doing its part to assure quality, false alarm resistant systems, you are eligible for IQ Certification. The IQ requirements are steps you can take whether you are a large national company or, like me, a smaller operation."

The IQ Certification Board has mailed more than 150 applications for certification to companies in the U.S.A. and Canada. The Board plans to hold its next meeting to certify qualifying companies in mid-October.

To attain IQ Certification, a company must request an application from the IQ Certification Board at 8300 Colesville Rd, Suite 750, Silver Spring, MD 20910, fax: (301) 585-1866, e-mail info@iqcertification.org.
